π§ Where Is My Mind
With your feet on the air and your head on the ground, try this trick and spin it, yeah
Your head will collapse, if there's nothing in it, and you'll ask yourself
Where is my mind?
It's safe to assume Pixies (I really wanted to write "The Pixies," but TIL that it's just...Pixies) weren't thinking about productivity when they recorded this iconic track, yet I think the applicability is clear. "Where is my mind" is a useful, if not maddening, question.
Planning and acting with intention isn't just about considering the next steps. It also requires consideration of where your feet are planted (or floating) in this very moment.
Where is your mind? Are you feeling grounded or out to sea? Focused or drifting through space?
Getting things done doesn't mean trying desperately to ignore all the things that are trying to keep you from getting those things done. If you've got a long to-do list (who doesn't?) but you feel like you're banging your head against a wall, take a break. Even a brief reset can do wonders.
Conversely, if you feel some type of creative energy or find yourself in the zone, lean into it. When your mind is ready to go, why stop it?
Take stock of where you actually are, pausing the obsession over where you want to be.
And if you're looking to take a short break right now, may I suggest watching this excellent cover of the song that inspired this post?
With my feet in the air and my head on the ground,
-Rye
p.s. I've had some creative energy on Insta lately, and I decided to make a seven-day series chronicling this week of wild travel. Check out day 1 here, and day 2 here β should work for ya even if you don't have an Instagram account (just close the box prompting you to login).
